Emotional Support, Guidance and Consultation
Stress-Coping Profile:
Reducing stress or managing it better is an important
factor in recovering from illness or preventing the onset of illness.
While people experience stress in their lives, what is experienced
as stressful and how they choose to cope varies from person to person.
Temperament, personal goals and strivings, and past experiences all
influence what will be experienced as stressful and how people will
deal with that stress. The Stress-Coping Profile provides a personalized
summary of people's coping styles and will include specific
recommendations for how to reduce stress, better cope, and improve
a sense of well being.
Psychological Wellness Consultation:
Emotional risk factors such as depression or anxiety
can create a significant challenge in a person's ability to
enjoy life and can negatively impact how one recovers from a variety
of physical illnesses including cardiovascular disease.
Individuals who have had to alter their lives due to cardiovascular disease are often challenged in reorganizing their lives and redefining who they are. The experience of having a life threatening disease can create fears and anxiety about one's well being as well uncertainty about how a person defines him- or herself. The life changes that are recommended to recover and maintain good health may seem overwhelming. The purpose of this consultation will be to assess the presence of depression, anxiety, or other emotional risk factors. Recommendations will be made to help reduce these risk factors. Also recommendations will be made suggesting ways to best make needed modifications in one's life.
My Challenges to Weight LossSummary:
Losing and maintaining weight is not an easy challenge
for many women. However, maintaining a healthy weight is often crucial
in maintaining a healthy heart. There are many effective weight loss
diet and exercise programs available. However, an individual's ability
to fully benefit from these programs is often challenged by time constraints,
limited social support, discomfort with putting one's own needs first,
and unrecognized emotional factors. The purpose of this assessment
is to provide an evaluation and recommendations for maintaining a
healthy weight based on a woman's individual needs.
Women's Support Group:
This ongoing support group meets weekly and allows
women the opportunity to connect with other women and gain support
in recovering from illness and maintaining health, as well as dealing
with the challenges of maintaining self-care while meeting the needs
of family, friends, and other obligations. This group is open, and
fairly non-structured allowing for flexibility in addressing the variety
of issues confronting women.
