Women's Heart Foundation of Greater Chicago
Through awareness, research, and education
women can greatly reduce their risk of
heart
disease. This is the premise of the Women's Heart Foundation of
Greater Chicago. By partnering with physicians and communities,
the foundation supports initiatives that foster information and
shed new light on the unique aspects of a woman's heart. Here are
some statistics you may not be aware of:
-
Heart disease is the number one cause of death in women.
-
Only 8% of American women are aware that heart disease and stroke are their greatest health risk. (Most believe breast cancer is their main enemy.)
-
Only 35% of female heart patients initially recognize their conditions as heart related.
-
Women comprise only 25% of all research participants in heart-related research studies.
Supporting Women in Your Community
The Women's Heart Foundation supports a variety of initiatives targeting
heart disease in women. These include:
-
Free heart screenings to educate women about their individual heart health.
-
Educational outreach in communities including educational public workshops and professional symposiums that improve women's ability to reduce their risk
-
Advanced scientific research
All women in the Chicago area and the surrounding suburbs are entitled to services supported by the foundation, including participation in research activities.
Why Donate?
These and other programs generate understanding into the unique
heart health of women. In so doing, doctors and patients are in
a better position to help themselves in the prevention and treatment
of heart disease. In the short-term, we increase the survivorship
of women like Melodee who suffer from heart disease. Long-term,
we hope to grow into a highly visible entity so as to provide even
more accessible preventive, diagnostic, and treatment options for
women.
With your charitable donation, we can help our sisters, daughters, and mothers overcome their risk of heart disease. We hope you will join us on this journey.
